So I love the show but find its getting a little unbelievable lately. This whole Senate run thing is ridiculous. I mean, realistically, Bill would be instantly found out as a polygamist.
Barb was just excommunicated from LDS as a polygamist, and don't forget that she was disqualified from Beehive Mother of the Year for the same reason. Any reporter could probably dig up this information easily.
Also, didn't Bill go to Wayne's Catholic school with Nicki, as her husband? Pretty hard to explain away!
Also, neighbors Jim and Pam know about them. While I think they do like Margene, would they keep quiet about something this big?
I'm waiting for the next storyline to be that one of the wives is secretly a man.

LOL, ladykc! I agree - too much, and too unbelievable. I just keep thinking, don't Utah reporters do anything?
In the real world, all the stuff you mentioned would be on the Internet, and one Google would find it all.

I agree. I love Big Love but this is really getting silly. Bill would be out in two seconds. That Beehive mother of the year thing at the governor's mansion would be out in about five minutes. Hello writers of Big Love? ? Not realistic. And running for anything costs BIG money. Bill is crying about money all the time and he can finance a campaign all of a sudden. I'm worried that they jumped the shark with this election plot.

I agree...But I'm not convinced they've jumped the shark completely...
I still think this senate thing is going to blow up in Bill's face in the worst possible way and rearrange his whole life and priorities.
I suspect it is all a lesson for him to learn. Things might be going his way right now, but I don't expect things to stay that way.

Against my better judgement I've swept aside the completey unrealistic senate plot thus far, but seriously... if Bill actually wins the senate campaign (without being "outted") I'm gonna have to agree - they've jumped the shark.
They've already jumped the realism shark though... but its tv so i can fogive them that to point.

I keep thinking the same as you all. Maybe now that he has the nomination he will be scrutinized. I mean, even his neighbors know that he is a polygamist, so.... I wish this season was about 15 eps. to develop the stories a bit better. This season has so much going on, and it's very interesting, but there is so much that just seems to be forgotten. What about Don? I can't believe Barb went along with that scheme. Just doesn't make sense. This is WAY beyond telling a few white lies to have a happy life. This is downright deception...just hard for me to believe she is OK with it. I dunno...

Yes, I agree it will be more realistic if this blows up. I mean, a lot of this stuff probably is a google search away.
So if one of the wives does turn out to secretly be a man, which one?

LMFAO!
I'd place my bets on Anna... She has kinda a deep voice... Maybe she was a man once upon a time and had sex reassignment surgery!
NOW THAT would be fricken hilarious!!! Then Bill finds out and he throws up and his wives all wonder why...Then he has to either admit he slept with her or keep it all a secret lol! No amount of viagra will help him then!
Then he'll get on the phone with Alby and tell him "Man, have I got the woman for you!!!"

For me it is the surreal atmosphere of the casino. I would rather see the drama going on at home rather than having to find an excuse for everyone to drive to Idaho.
I think it isn't so much jumping the shark as going bad daytime drama from the 90's.
1. Open up a hot new club or restuarant then have all the charaters end up there every day so we can exucse the expense! "Grandma, Let's go the hip hop club so we can watch Emily sing Jazz!" The BL version, "Hey let's all drive 90 miles to the casino at the same time for different reasons!"
2. Let's go on location! It isn't necessary, but let's send Bill and Nicki to DC! Even though most of the drama takes place in hotel rooms and convention space, it'll be awesome for some pointless scenes in front of the Washington monument.
There are more similarities, but I am waiting for my coffee. I still love the show, but I can't go back to soaps man.

I have stated this in a couple of other threads, but I agree with you guys. I don't like the senate storyline. It would have been much more interesting, in my opinion, for them to focus on the power struggle for the next prophet of Juniper Creek. Of course, that could still happen, but I think that will probably be saved for next season. They also teased the audience with the whole "Church of Bill" introduction in last season's finale, "The Sacrament". I think that a polygamous sect that rivaled Juniper Creek with Bill as the prophet would have been really amusing to watch.
Of course, maybe that is where the writers ultimately want to go. If Bill wins the senate seat, his plan is to change the polygamy laws. If the writers decide to simply suspend realistic belief for television's sake even further, and they write that the polygamy laws pass, that could be another interesting twist.

I , like a lot of others , think that ultimately we are going to find Bill back at the compound and a fight for the prophets seat is very likely. I think (Maybe?) the writers are trying to show that every other avenue was exhausted for Bill in his plight to chnage poly / fund. Can you imagine if they took a straight tleap from last season to opening this season with Bill deciding to be prophet? I think that would have been unrealistic as well. It would basically go against the whole reasoning behind everything he has tried to do "outside" the compound.
My biggest issue with the senate story line is just that it's too far fetched that he would be able to keep his lifestyle secret untill election , and an even farther stretch to think if he got elected he could "come out" without losing his seat - or that the general public wouldnt feel anythign but duped.

My guess for which wife is a man is either Nicki because of her skill at carpentry, or Margene due to her sexual appetite.
The pregnancies and births are elaborate ruses, daytime drama-style.
No one's really dead, either. Roman's coming back.

I'm thinking that the senate run will be the thing that blows everything apart for Bill and he'll end losing if not everything a great deal....probably the casinos for sure, his new "church", and probably Home Plus too. And after that, he'll decide to be prophet because then that will be the only option available for him and his family...to return to the compound. He might possibly lose Margie and perhaps Ben permanently as a result...although Nikki would probably stay if there's a possibility that Bill will become the prophet. He'll of course try to spin the decision of course...trying to reform Juniper Creek and polygamy from "the inside".

I'm not a fan of the Senate plot, but I think it will serve the purpose of getting Bill back on Juniper Creek and fighting for Prophet.
Hopefully they'll finish this Senate thing before next season.

That's why I thought the storyline this season would focus on "the Church of Bill". They teased us with it, and then basically dropped it.
