Another FAIL on the part of the writers is that, I assume, the children have birth certificates. I know my birth date is listed on my kid's certs. Did she lie on those, too?

Ultimately Lois is vindicated since her first reaction to Marge was that Bill had betrayed his values and married a child. Lois hit it out of the park with that one! I wonder if this was planned all along or the writers just came up with it. It feels kinda "spur of the moment"

On HBO.com, the behind the scenes video says they came up with it this season.

This whole storyline makes no sense at all. It's not plausible! Forget all the statutory rape issues, there's no way a 15/16 year old could have had the life experiences Marge had before joining the family. Let's look at this
Home Plus wasn't her first job. Don did/does the hiring, I can't buy that Don didn't give Bill a heads up. Her music collection is to "old" to be from someone her age. Last episode she danced to a song that she danced with her girlfriends to, the song was from the 90's.

I think everyone is making a big jump to suggest Margene was only 15 when she was sleeping with Bill. She said she was 16 when they got married. I don't think they were in a relationship for very long before the marriage happened. She could have been closer to 17 than 15.
And she still could have been telling the truth about losing her virginity at 16, there was time for her to have dated several guys and had fun at a few parties before she met Bill.
And as someone who is her age, I know a lot of people with a music collection like hers. The writers haven't completely screwed it up.
I totally understand why the rest of the family is acting the way they are. Maybe after they stop and think, they'll realise they need to look after Margene but at first being made at her it totally reasonable.

What makes it even worse, is they had an affair before they were even married... Bill literally slept with the 16 year old babysitter! He is officially a pedophile!
Yes Margene shouldn't have lied but you know what.... How could he have not made sure of her age? He is the one responsible! I mean as much as he speaks out against underage marriage in his faith.. As big of a deal as that is for him... He wouldn't check when she was obviously really young and a teenager?
That is just stupid!

Who checks the ID of someone they love and have no reason to suspect they're lying, especially when their mother collaborates their story?
On the other hand, who lies about something to someone they love when their lie could potentially land that person in jail?

If Bill had to get confirmation that Margene was 18 then Bill as a man should have known he was on a slippery slope. Anytime a man has to say "are you 18" or hears "it's okay I'm 18" sex should not take place. The age of majority is a law to protect youth from their immaturity. Teenagers lie. Bill wanted to have sex with Margene & didn't care that it was beyond wrong that a conversation about Margene's age was taking place. Why didn't Bill say "I love you & believe you should be part of this family as one of my wives but let's take it slow & I will court you for a year." During this courtship Margene should have felt safe to share anything with Bill & perhaps the truth would have come out -- before Bill had sex with a girl. Bill trusted the word of Margene's deadbeat drunk mom, an immature lost girl who would do anything to be loved, and his sexual desires. Of course Margene lied she was a teenager but Bill was a middle age man.

My problem with all of this is that I just do not see how a 16 year old can find a 40 something year old physically attractive. I think she was much more attracted to the family and a sense of belonging. And I still cannot figure out how he didn't know her age when she worked at Home Plus.

Southernsong, I agree & that's why I feel bad for Margene. I think Margene knew Bill wanted sex & because Margene wanted to have a family so much to love & be loved Margene was willing to have sex with Bill. I don't believe any 15 / 16 year old would have a healthy sexual attraction to a middle aged man - I think Margene being lost, lonely, broken (because a healthy teen wouldn't be getting sealed at 16 to Bill they would be going to concerts, shopping, thinking about prom, picking out a car, doing pranks with their friends) - Margene being a person who was empty inside searching for love she sacrificed her well being to have a sexual relationship with a middle aged man - because Bill wanted sex - for a family & sense of belonging. Bill wasn't concerned with Margene's well being because if he had been he would have courted her for at least a year & not let their relationship become sexual. Even if Margene would have entered Bill's office naked & straddled him as he sat in at his desk - Bill should have told Margene to put her clothes on & let Margene know she didn't have to have sex with him - he could have told Margene he was looking forward to sharing this special act with her but right now he was getting to know her spirit so he could serve to be a protector, shield, & uplifting husband for her.
Southernsong, there is a spoiler on the net stating Don knew about Margene's age & kept it from Bill. Don did this to be passive aggressive & to have something on Bill. I don't know how reliable this is but if it's true I could see Don being angry at Bill w/ Don perceiving Bill has always thinking he (Bill) is right & Don laughing on the inside because he knew Bill is having sex with a very young girl.

If she's just now 20/21 how did she go out dancing with her girlfriends when she was 7? They screwed this up so badly it's not even funny. It's like they forgot the lines from the week before.

I think she was much more attracted to the family and a sense of belonging. And I still cannot figure out how he didn't know her age when she worked at Home Plus. It can and does happen. I've witnessed it myself. When I was 16 I lived in the USA as an exchange student and toward the end of my stay there was a massive chaos/drama when one of the exchange students ran away with her host father. She'd turned 17 towards the end of the year and the host father was a middle aged man who was married and had three small children. The only reason they came back was because the people running the organisation threatened to bring kidnapping charges against him. They didn't want to send the girl home early and let her stay as long as she didn't contact the man. That lasted a whole day and a half. They put her on a plane sent her home, and we're fairly sure as soon as she was home she jumped on a plane and came straight back. They really wanted to get him for statutory rape but in MI the age of consent is 17 so they just denied having a physical relationship before then. I honestly think Margene was attracted to Bill, she liked the power and you got to admit when he turns on the charm his voice can be rather appealing. Margene has always been portrayed as a rather sexual being so it wouldn't surprise me if she was the one pushing the sex on Bill. Remember when he was dating Ana, she was the one pushing the sex on him.

Normally, I would agree that you shouldn't have to check the ID of a person they love or suspect they are lying... BUT... Bill was an almost 50 year old man having sex with a "teenager"... It wasn't like he was 21 sleeping with a teenager.... Or even 30... He's a dirty old man as it is to be sleeping with her even if he believed she was 18 he should have still made sure! But that is just my opinion!

I thought the reason that there is only 5 seasons is because the writers had this whole series planned from the start & they are finishing it the way they intended (I am sure I read that in a few places). so why did they just come up with this thing this season then? seriously this is all screwed up. The writers are annoying me. Continue the series, & get new writers
