BigLuvJunkie, Thanks! I'll look at it now. Here's a link to "Meet The New Babysitter" It's when The Henricksons were living in their old house & Bill brings Margene home for the first time. www.spike.com/video/big-love-heres-new/2862887

They should've listened to their writing staff. The general consensus seems to be either: 1. Silly 2. Gross I don't think that's the reaction that writers really want. I think they forgot that people have strong opinions on children and how they are portrayed and/or treated both in real life and on TV. For the record: I'm in the "REALLY GROSS" camp.

I think it's really gross and a complete waste of time. There's so many other big storylines that they could've focused on, and this just takes away from them.

Chill ladies.
If they had put this into the first season that would have been the end of it before it had a beginning. It would have been axed before it got any air time.
Putting this little "sub plot" into season 5 is a sure way to end it with certainty. There is nowhere to go from here.
It is proof positive they have given up on convincing anyone this is an "acceptable" alternate lifestyle. (as if they ever really thought it possible) The plethora of vindictive comments on the subject should be enough to convince anyone with any doubt.
Popcorn anyone? Let us not forget it is drama afterall.

Yeah if there had every been any clues I would be ok with it, well ok with the twist not the subject, but they were clearly writing Marge as an older person for four seasons.

I"m writing this YEARS after it happened, having watched the entire series one episode after the other from beginning to end, and seeing it laid out this way it's all the more clear that this is shamefully bad writing. There is so much that goes against the idea that Margene was 16 when she married Bill - or even 18! How many times have they told Sarah that she's "only 18?" Neither she nor ANYONE else at the time ever said, "That's how old Margene was" or anything remotely like that. The implication, based on how people behaved toward her and the visual look of the actress, has always been that she was in her early twenties when she married into the family. There is NO WAY she was intended to have been 18 at the time of the marriage prior to the moment when the writers decided to have the words come out of her mouth during Christmas dinner. And if, as someone here said, the writers say they got away from Big Love's purpose in season 4, then I really hate these writers, because I LOVED season 4. I liked all the characters in that season - especially Nicki, though not Bill, who is and always has been an ass. Season 5 is all about Mormonism and shades of it and blah blah blah who cares? Too much discussion of religion and priesthood and all that just makes Bill seem like some religious fanatic, and his actions become more and more selfish and despicable all the time. The idea that he would be elected at all is laughable. Another thing: somewhere along the way these lazy writers decided they wanted a different family dynamic so the youngest daughter gets sent away to live with the older daughter and nobody ever mentions it again, aside from a line or two here and there where no one even seems to miss her? No one seems disturbed that Sarah, her husband, and Tina (or whatever her name actually is) don't make the short trek to Utah to be with the family for Christmas. I have spent every single Christmas of my life with my family, no matter where I was living, and we're not even the types who walk around spouting "Family is everything" slogans. But everyone is absolutely OK with two daughters disappearing entirely for the full season. Heather coming back and being inserted into the story to replace the other two girls is silly because it's hard to believe Ben's feelings for her have flip flopped so much - she is basically the same person, and looks the same, yet now he adores her when before he didn't like her at all? It is utter nonsense, and only by watching these episodes end to end have I been able to see clearly how much these writers not only dropped the ball but THREW it.

I am also tardy to the party after discovering this show in the On Demand menu. I watched the pilot out of curiosity and fell in love with it.
Just saw the end, and several things in Season 5 didn't ring true for me. Margene's timing to tell her real age is one of them. I agree with a previous post that she would have said it before Bill ran for office. And yes, I think Ana and/ or Goren would have picked up on it. Goren was intelligent. Plus, Margene's would have told Ana...they were buddies.
The other problem that baffled me was the Cara Lynn's adoption. Barb's suggestion of Nikki giving up parental rights so that she and Bill could adopt her was blown off too quickly. Also, a few years back, they made a big deal out of their wills. Why didn't Nikki just update her will with a guardian for Cara Lynn???
I loved the show, but the writers seemed to struggle toward the end.
