She was so powerful in DC and now she wants to work for the casino?
I don't get what is so hot about the casino that she went all the way to Utah to meet Tommy. Doesn't she have work in DC?
Maybe I don't completely understand how a lobbyist works.
Can someone clue me?

A lobbyist is an activist who usually represents and is paid by a special interest group to promote that group's positions / poitical agendas. They typically are very knowledgeable about the legislative process and know who the decision makers are... they develop politcal alliances and relationships in a way that a buisy / new politician dont have. They are bacially hired guns who get paid large amounts of money to to influence people. In return the person or group who hires them to push their agenda has a higher chance of having a bill / law passed to their benefit. Additionally, lobbyists get "earmarks" (as densham mentioned) put into legislature that directs large amounts of funds be spent on specific projects / directs sepcific tax / fee exemptions. This is known to happen basically by way of bribing members of congress & often times the earmarks on a peice of legislation have absolutely nothing to do with the subject of it.
So the benefit for those who hire a lobbyist are potentialy getting their political agenda to pan out as well as making money by way of earmarks that the obbyist negotiates. It's not the purest of occupations / systems, but then again... they've been aroudn as long as the house and congress have been & without a lobbyist you're basically dead in the water b/c pretty much everyone uses them.
So Marilyn being powerful in DC is essential to her position as a lobbyist - it's the political relationships she has built that allow her to get things done for the people who hire her.
As to he rinterest in the casino - she seems to "specialize" in rep.'ing indian tribes ; she mentions this I beleive and also her "references" with the seminoles. That being the case, and the casino being a "black foot" casino - i'm sure she just sees an oportunity to make some money.

Seems like Bill should have treated Marilyn a little differently. I can't wait to see her bring him down. The writers have talked about having her next season too...So I wonder how that will play out and what that means for this whole senate storyline?

I have no idea because I try and not pay too much attention to politics anymore. It just makes me angry. LOL!

I'm not much of a fan of hers yet. We will see what she does in the upcoming episodes.

I may be biased (b/c I like sissy spacek) but I really like the character so far. why? because i thnk she's the only one who realy sees bill for what he is... character wise. She's already gothis number on a number of levels - If she finds out what he is poly wise... i thnk its going to make for a really good story line. Especially since she is a woman , and thus underestimated by Bill.

I think Bill's line about not wanting to get "in bed" with her was telling. Freudian slip, anyone?
Otherwise, it's a really dumb thing for any man to say to a women.

I also saw somewhere that marilyn densham (the character) was more or less pulled from the headlines - but i cant figure out who / what she's based on? anyone have a clue? A quick Google came up with this: Smith felt uneasy when his office was lobbied on behalf of two tribes by Diane Allbaugh, the wife of Joe Allbaugh, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the 2000 national campaign manager for Bush. Diane Allbaugh, who worked at a firm headed by former Republican National Committee chair Haley Barbour, appeared on behalf of a Louisiana casino developer under contract with the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequots, a Connecticut tribe then tied to Donald Trump. This woman actually works for a NYC law firm, but I don't know her or the firm. (Which is not as odd as it sounds - I work with a lot of law firms.) But it sounds as if she might be the model.

I think what Bill means about "not getting into bed with" Marilyn, is that he is not interested in making any political deals with her. Remember how Marilyn lit up when Nikki told her Bill owned a casino on a reservation? Cha-ching! She knew she'd have an in with him because she lobbies for Indian tribes...she saw the $$$ coming in! She had already blown him off as a jerk.
Can't wait to hear her tell Bill she doesn't know what Barb sees in such a "horse's ass!"

While Marilyn is drumming up business with the casino; Bill recognizes that this could be his demise. For instance, if she gets wind that he's a polygamist before he lets the cat out of the bag!! This could definitely be the end to Bill's political life.

Notwithstanding the brief interaction they had in Washington, why does Bill hate Marilyn so much? Is it because she's a powerful woman who he cannot control?
It will definitely be interesting when the Bill/Marilyn/Nicky triangle comes to a head, since Nicky represented herself as Bill's assistant.

I think Marilyn is the one to take him down, but what is even better is Barb likes her and Marilyn likes Barb and doesnt like Bill. THey could work together and both bring Bill back down to earth.
