Marilyn is definitely out for her own best interests... But... That isn't necessarily a bad thing in the business world. Bill isn't much different than her. I also don't know why he hates her so much.
I suspect it is due to the fact that she played him real good when he mistook her for being a measly secretary... I also think because they are both so much alike they butt heads. Just as Bill didn't want Ted getting his hand in the honey pot with the casino, he doesn't want Marilyn either. He wants it all to himself...PERIOD!
I could totally see Marilyn and Bill hitting the sheets...Pounding that flesh. LOL!

Barb is going to be impressed with Marilyn and Marilyn's independence. Marilyn has already made Barb stronger and more independent. Bard did cross out Bill's name and sign her name to the casino papers. I think that the purpose of Marilyn's character is so that we can see Barb's character growth. It should be really interesting to watch the influence Marilyn has on Barb.

Unfortunately, I think Mariyn is playing Barb just as much as Bill. She may genuinely like barb on a personal level but it's all gonna come down to business and agenda with amrilyn - she's a lobbyist for cripes sakes.
I say unfrotunately b/c I think Barb is going to take it personally when marilyn's full agenda is known.

Notwithstanding the brief interaction they had in Washington, why does Bill hate Marilyn so much? Is it because she's a powerful woman who he cannot control? It will definitely be interesting when the Bill/Marilyn/Nicky triangle comes to a head, since Nicky represented herself as Bill's assistant. To be honest, Bill is a bit of a chauvinist. He's just not comfortable dealing with a woman on an equal basis and certainly not when the woman is in a position to have the upper hand.

I think there's a lot of women's lib going on this season! Margie and the business, Nikki standing up to her mother and JJ, Jodeen standing up to Frank (at least subtly), Cara Lynn getting educated and Barb finding her footing at the casino. I think Barb sees what she could have been in Marilyn- not a lobbyist, per say, but a career woman with tons of success. Barb does have a gift for managing things!
I think Marilyn's purpose in the show is to be the first truly self-supporting female character! Think about it- every other woman on the show is married or engaged. There are literally no independent women! She's gonna show the wives that women can be tough, and show Bill that not all ladies are docile FLDS/LDSers who want to have his babies! Marilyn's character actually kind of irks me, but not as much as Bill does! He's such a chauvinist, especially now that he's so caught up in his own career. I sure hope she takes him down a notch (or forty!)

I think Barb genuinely likes Marilyn, but is it reciprocated? I agree with those who just don't see it. Marilyn seems rather mercenary. She wants Barb on her side both because she is on the casino board and because it is a link to Bill's vulnerabilities.
I really cringed at the scene at the ice cream bar. Barb is so modestly proud (if such a thing can be) of her idea as Sarah gives her props for it, and Marilyn is egging her on, but I got the feeling she was snickering inside.

Maybe the point of Marilyn's character is that she is a strong, independent, modern woman - exactly the opposite to Bill's ideal of women ("I want what you want, dear.") I think she is adding all kinds of great tension points: a new example for Barb, a challenge to Bill's ambitions, a dangerous situation for Nicki's under cover work, and another route for the Flutes to take. WOW. I only wish there were more episodes - there's just too much in each one this season.

I don't think Bill is ever going to like anyone, but especially a woman, who calls him a "douchebag." In their world of "what the h," terms like that say SO much about the person. He's bound to be disgusted by her.

LOL I still love the whole "douchebag" comment... Mwahahah! I don't really like Marilyn per se', but I totally agree with her there.

I think Marilyn is really working for another Indian band that is planning to open a casino. Getting the Flutes and Barb to sign on with her is for her to have their casino fail for the other casino to be successful. She is using everyone for her own agenda. She had a phone call where she said that she she wasn't going to have any problem to sign.

Yes and remeber jerry had reservations about joining with bill right from the start--now it seems bill has caused truoble at every turn plus I am sure he didn't appreaciate that after going in with him, bil just dumps the casino into Barbs hands and runs for senate-- who even knew if Barb could mange things- this is why he has his son there to oversee things-- the sons eyes are being opened to how used and maltreated Bill treats barb as well -- I am sure all this is being reported back to Jimmy-

If I were Jerry I'd be pissed off too.
I mean Bill went above and beyond, borderline BEGGING to become partners with this casino thing and as soon as he gets his way, poof he's onto his next venture.
That doesn't look good. It looks like Bill is superficial.
Bill presented himself to be just a measly family man, who just wanted to work with Jerry to make money for his family. He has brought nothing but trouble to Jerry from the start. If I were Jerry, I'd try and find a way to get rid of Bill.
