While there is no doubt Nicki's actions have done much harm to her family, I think what is even more inexcusable are the horrible things she says to some of them. The things she said to Cara Lynn were deplorable. What kind of person tells their child they don't deserve to be loved? I was literally in tears that time she told Barb Sarah had defiled her body and implied it was Barb's fault. She rarely says anything to Margene that is not dripping with condescending disdain. She uses her loved ones' deepest insecurities against them, going straight for the jugular so as to disable them early in a confrontation. I get the feeling she does this to take the focus off her own serious shortcomings. Heaven forbid anyone should call her on her crap, stand up to her and try to have it out with her. The last time that happened, she had a pathetic excuse for an anxiety attack and "passed out" on the kitchen floor!

Is anyone's upbringing an excuse to treat others like dirt? I don't think so. At some point, you need to "rise above your raising" as the saying goes.
As for not booting her out, Bill was ready to do that after the debt. Too bad he didn't follow through with his original plan.

I couldn't stand the Nicki character from the beginning of the series -- that overblown birthday party for Wayne was sickening, and all the crap she was buying on credit, dragging her family into debt.
However, as the seasons have progressed, I find that I like Nicki more than I used to, or at least have sympathy and pity for her. Yes, she was raised horribly, and with a father like Roman, a mother like Adaleen, and a brother like Alby, and being married off to that horrible, evil JJ when she was only 15 -- how else could you expect her to turn out? So I feel sorry for her -- props to the writers and to Chloe Sevigny for crafting a character that I can detest and empathize with in the same episode LOL
And just when I really can't stand Nicki and want to slap her silly, she does something right, something kind, something of noble character that makes me realize no matter what, no matter how self serving and selfish she is, she really does love her family -- as much as she is capable of love.

In the first episode: Pilot: "Honeybee" was referred to Teenie's "Scout" troop name. Honey bees are an important LDS symbol, emphasizing hard work for the sake of the community/family. The honey bee is the official state insect of Utah, and Utah is nicknamed "the Beehive State" -- the beehive is on the state seal, state flag, and the markers for state highways. According to the BoM, the word "deseret" means "honey bee", and the name Deseret is on LDS thrift stores, book stores, a credit union for church members, and one of the largest newspapers in Utah.

Thank you! That is important information! I'm not Mormon, but I have a lot of LDS relatives on my dad's side. One of my great grandfathers was named Brigham Alfred and had four wives (that we know of, LOL) I haven't seen the clip, but if Barb named her car "Honey Bee" that's quite symbolic, considering all of the hard work she's done and sacrifices she's made for the sake of her "hive". And if ANYONE should be the queen bee, that would be Barb!

Nickie to Barb: "You named your impractical little car HoneyBee. I think in your face would be a better name."
I loved the scene, of Barb in the new car. Until Bill described its sentimental value between him & Barb!

I thin Bill freaked about the car because he was really talking about his mother.

I thin Bill freaked about the car because he was really talking about his mother. I thought he was upset because he felt a personal attachment to a 'thing' representative of his and Barb's early life together..... very emotional attachment to a thing.I think he was talking about feeling like he was losing Barb. Sometimes people can express emotions about things that they can't express about people. The car was the symbol of their life together. In Bill's mind, trading in the car was like trading in their life together.

The car put him over the edge.

Or both. He had just come back from seeing Lois in bad shape and then loosing barb. The car put him over the edge. And right then (I had forgotten) he had to tell them all, "we lost Home Plus"....... so that was part of the Bill equation too....I really felt for Bill during that scene. In his mind he knew Barb needed a new car but in his heart that car meant so much to him. The car represented just him & Barb's life and at that moment in his heart it had to have felt that he was loosing his business and his life with her.
