I laughed really hard when Bill pulled out the Russell Stover's chocolates to "celebrate"!! The wives looked like they wanted to kill Bill! How tacky is that? He could have brought some sparkling apple cider or something...

They had to share a box between them. That was what killed me.
Hey. Big spender, get everybody their own box! Maybe get each the kind they like.

Russell Stover's doesn't bother me because the plant is here but I didn't realize it was a national thing. I thought it was a regional company. lol

Is apple cider considered really special in Utah? I'm only asking because where I'm from, most people would be even more disappointed if they were offered apple cider!

Apple cider would not be special, to my knowledge anywhere in the US, unless it is really spefic to a particular culture that we don't know about. I give my kids apple juice and pretzels for snack...that is not for grown women.

They could have gotten a bottle of sparkling cider. That might have made it more special.

I suggested apple cider because it is non-alcoholic and I have often seen adults who don't drink alcohol, use apple cider during a toast.

Oh yeah, sparkling apple cider.
I don't drink and that is what we use.
I was thinking of a big glass of that murky apple cider you drink on Thanksgiving! ;D

I think Bill might have gotten over as the cheap person that he is. Nikki was all smiles & was getting ready to get her piece of candy when they were interrupted by the disturbance in the other senator's office.

That was a cultural reference lost on me to be honest; I actually thought they may be quite fancy (I'm from England).

My husband and I have a standing date every Sunday night. It is usually an at-home date where we light candles, have dinner and a glass of wine, and watch a movie (now that Big Love is back on, our standing date is on Mondays). When I got pregnant and through nursing, we switched from wine to sparkling grape or apple juice. Seems that would have been much more appropriate than a box of chocolates.

Rhinestone, Russell Stover's Candy is a nice box of chocolate that you buy for about $10-$15 dollars, depending on the size. They are sold here in the greeting card aisle of drug stores etc. You know, like pick up a card and little box of chocolate. It is certainly not fancy or luxurious. It's a token gift. Certainly NOT something you would buy THREE wives to share! To Americans, it was showing how rather cheap and insensitive Bill is...like a little box of chocolates makes up for the huge mess and distress the wives are dealing with. Bill ran into some store and grabbed some chocolate and was like "here, here, be grateful for all that I've done for you" It was not a high point for Bill. Adding: It would like giving your wife a pen or another little gift. Nice that you thought of me but for that MESS, I 'd need more than that! ;D
