LOL
Yeah, I'm not really feeling the "go for it" vibe ragardless of his age. I'm not opposed to Margie breaking free from Bill necessarily, but hooking up with "their" son... not sure that's the route she should take to get out. lol It still lends kind of a weirded out vibe for me age aside. But i do think it was the most interesting thing that happened this episode LOL
I WOULD like to know how old he is though, or atleast who's the oldest... him or sarah ?

Margie hooking up with Ben kind goes with the whole, "I grew up to date my babysitter" thing. I can kind of seeing it going with Margie's destructive behavior before she joined the family.

If anything does go further bewteen margie and ben I dont think it will be due to margies self destructiveness. I think it would be out of her being so desperately lonely. marge is a people person. she needs to feel connected. she isnt getting that from bill, or her sister wives right now. On a side note - check out margene's blog. lol I know, I know, ... it's super cheesy for a fake character to have a "blog" lol I checked it out at some point and just coudnt get with people addressing margene as if she were real. lol BUT i thought after this weeks episode her blog might actually be interesting. Given the assumption that the show's writers (or atleast one of them) are actually writing the blog on behalf of "margene"... after reading it , i think it may hold some fuzzy clue as to where this storylilne is going. here's the link: www.margenes-blog.com/margenes-blog/2010/1/24/i-messed-up.html

I too am a confused on Ben's actual age...But, Statutory Rape or not, this is wrong, wrong, wrong! Margene have known better! And to do that in public! OMG! What was she thinking? Then again, Margene has always been the naive and emotional one. She seems to be maturing so much in this season and finally coming into her own. Now she went and did this!! I'm sure Barb is going to tear her an new asshole when she finds out that Margene kissed her son! I wonder if Bill will find out, and if so, what will he do?

If the kiss alone had happened I'd say it might actually remain a secret (much along the lines that Ben's love note did). Since it actually ended up with ben being shown on tv as "MR. Margene Heffman" ... I'm pretty sure the cat's outta the bag. (maybe it never even made it in the bag lol ?) Either margene comes clean , or makes up one helluva story to cover it up. we'll see... Bill finding out is inevitable IMO. If Barb keeps this one to herself I think it would be completely out of character.
Also since Teeny is back, and Teeny was the only one who knew about the "love note" Ben gave her last season... I think that may come out as well. She seems very "mormon" since her return from wherever she was. (camp? barb's mom's?) when she talked to sarah she said "I'm sorry you couldnt be married in temple" and has always come across as kind of self-righteous to me. So I doubt she'll keep the secret in light of the kiss.

I so think that Teeny is going to be the one to bring up the love note and toss Margie under the bus.

Well, let's figure this out. I know that Sara is the oldest because in season one, after Bill found out that Ben had lost his virginity to Brynn, he was talking to Sara. He told her that she was his first born and would always be number one in his heart. Sara graduated high school during season 3.
Ben was taking driver's ed during season one, but must have also turned 16 then, because he was driving Brynn to the movies (when she was trying to get busy with him while Jason and his date were in the back seat). Season 2 took place 2 weeks after season 1, so we can only assume he was still 16 during season 2. We also know that Sara was 18 in Season 2 because she told Scott that she was still in high school, but was 18. This would make her a senior.
Season 3 took place a little later, but Sara was still a senior. She went to the prom, but was booking her housing for college. Knowing that Ben was younger than Sara, this means that Ben could only be a junior in high school. This would make him around 17.
This season, though only supposed to be 6 weeks after the end of Season 2, Sara should be in college. We know this because Heather is in college. It could be summer, though, because Teeny just now came back from camp. Also, Cara Lynn was getting ready to start school, but no mention of her going just yet. I would say that it is probably only a week or so until the school year is supposed to start and Heather started college in the summer rather than waiting until the fall. This means that Sara, who is the same age as Heather, is still probably only 18. Ben, being younger, cannot be 18 yet.
I am guessing he is 17. The actor, however, is 24.
As far as the age difference between Margene and Ben goes, I believe that she was supposed to be 20 when season 1 aired. Going by the time line listed above, this could mean that she is now anywhere from 21 to 22. Even if we take Ben to only be 17 and Margene to be 22, that is five years difference. Not only does that make her closer in age to Ben than she is to Bill, it actually makes her closer in age to Ben than any of her sister-wives.
Gennifer Goodwin, however, is 31.

There's been a couple of hints that Ben is over 18. Remember last season when Sarah started going through her crisis of faith, realizing that she thought the Principle was nonsense and being ashamed of her family's polygamy? Ben went the other direction, saying that he thought the Principle is true, and seems like he even had a couple of odd creepy "dates" with a pair of twins from the compound. His dad had some kind of dedication thing for him, just Bill and Ben, where Bill laid hands on Ben and prayed for him. It was like he was conferring the family priesthood to him. Also, at Bill's new church, the "men" of the chuch all sat in the front, facing the women and children -- so at the front it was Bill, Bill's buddy from Home Plus, and wasn't Ben up there with them? Also, LDS missionaries all have name badges that ID them as "Elder Smith" or "Elder Jones", and I think you have to be 18 to be an "Elder" in their church. Wasn't there a scene where Ben talked with the local Mormon bishop, and was asked why he hadn't or when he was going on his mission trip (something all LDS young men are expected to do)?
Disclaimer: I'm not LDS, never have been, but I have a lot of Mormon relatives who at one time tried to convert me, so I know quite a bit about their teachings.
At any rate, the age difference doesn't bother me (Ben and Margie are a LOT closer in age than Margie and Bill), nearly as much as the thought that she's his STEPMOM. Margie and Bill have 3 kids together -- Ben's half-siblings -- so if Margie and Ben get together it's just so...EWWWWWW.
Margie started all of this, though, in the first season -- prancing around the house in shortie PJ's (even coming to breakfast at Barb's like that), playfully roughhousing with Ben, confiding in Ben like he was her buddy instead of her stepson, being so...um...obvious...that she has the role of "cute, sexpot wife" (everybody in all three houses can hear Margie in the bedroom when it's her night with Bill). How did she think Ben, a teenaged boy with hormones in overdrive, was going to react? Barb saw it coming, but I think she assumed it was out of Ben's system.

After reading the blog I think when Barb asks why they thought Bill was the Mr. Margene Heffman...Margene is going to come clean and tell Barb the truth about what happened.
I think maybe Ben could have graduated HS when he was 17 and he might just be turning 18 now.

the only way i can figure it is that ben is one year younger than sara. last season she was a senior and this year ben appears to be still in high school.
also, that means that margene had to be 21/22 when bard said the "5 years" quote, and now she is 23 to ben's 18

23 and 18 isn't THAT bad of an age difference. I'm 4 years older than my husband.

Nice timeline, miceelf!
I did remeber something about them being 5 years apart in age, and it seemed I remembered Sarah being the oldest... but i couldnt recall for sure untill you noted the scenes above.
So Ben's either barely legal or on the verge of being legal lol and either way Margene is 5 years older.
I do think Magene helped facilitate ben having feelings for her, but i dont think it was intentional. Should she have known better? sure. did she? I really think she was just too young and naive herself to reaize it.
as to the kiss..... after reading the blog it sounds liek she's having some kind of interna struggle between knowing what she did was wrong, and why she did it. all the rambling about it just being a moment in time thatmeans nothing... i'm not buying personally.

hbo On demand now has added commentary after the episode with Will Scheffer & Mark Olsen. (show creators / producers) I caught i when I went back to re-watch the episode.
The main topic of discussion? Margene & Ben's kiss... of course.lol what did they have to say? Basically that this episode took their relationship into the realm that we were fearful of , or hopeful that it might go. It took them 2 mos in the writers room to decide if they should "go there" or not. They eleaborated by saying that this moment hit on all the raw nerves of where the family is right now & helps illustrate the loose boundaries of a poly family. it's a relationship they've been flirting with for basically 3 years and now we'll get to see if it will pay off , or go anywhere.
