First, how likely is it that Utah housewives are going to buy her jewelry when they know she is a polygamist wife?
Second, she went on TV and said that she had been abandoned by her husband and was a single mother. Part of her recent success was based on this sympathy that she garnered as a single mother who made something for herself. Now that is clearly not true at all.
It's possible that if she had been in the background as a partner in the jewelry business and Jerry's wife had been the one on TV, maybe she wouldn't have to give it up, but she is a public persona already, going public as a polygamist means all of her customers will know too.

Yes, but Bill is the public persona of Home PLus, and nobody is telling him to give it up and focus solely on the casino which he's not so publicly attached to. I know the casino is their "safety net" for that reason, but still... it's not like he's giving up home plus. On top of that, i just can't understand their way of thinking - i mean if bill realizes coming out will have a negative impact on their businesses, why does he seem to think it will be positive on any other level? It just doesnt make sense to me.

I think Bill expects Home Plus to take a big hit as well, hence the Casino being their "safety net" business. He has realized that their being found out would mean the end of Home Plus from the beginning, that's why he got involved in Weber to begin with.
I didn't have the impression that Margene was told "go in to work tomorrow and resign" so much as she knows perfectly well what will happen as soon as they are outed. The blond woman will probably fire her on the spot, but even if she doesn't the chances of Margene hanging on to any market is really really slim.
I feel more like it was an understanding that if he wins her business will inevitably fall to the wayside, and I actually thought the same point was made about Home Plus. The difference is, Bill was accepting of that, Margene didn't want to lose her business, so it was a struggle for her.

The whole thing does not make sense at all. Bill would've been outed with that Mother of the Year thing. The First Lady of Utah knew Barb was a polygamist. I think the plot was really really poor. I could see my kids thinking up something like that.
