And, having covered a hundred million different Barb topics here, I just want to add that Barb might think Bill is a jackass, but he's her jackass. So she follows. Good point

I agree, it's not just poly who have to deal with that. I just think up till this seaosn Barb could let Bill take the reigns , be the head of the family, the priesthood holder, etc. without much issue b/c his actions were ultimately for the betterment of the familya s he saw it. This lasts eason though, it was almost as if he was doing everything despite the family's feelings, wishes, or even condition. I think (or hope anyway) that's what's made Barb take a second look at things.

Like others have said, I also don't think Barb will be leaving.
She never said, "I'm gone." She just said, "I don't need you," which is very different. For once, she's realized that she doesn't need Bill to make decisions for her, to depend on, or for her to get permission from. She can still stay with Bill and love Bill, but be her own person now. She can openly be against what he's for, and feel free to voice her opinion about it. Bill can no longer expect her to do as he says, now he has to treat her like an equal. I think this will make for an interesting fifth season!

very good points AS! I just wonder if Bill will be up to embracing those changes ?
Will he be willing to treat her like an equal? Most importantly - when she's against what he's for will he be able to see this as a difference of opinion / will he see it as a personal assualt on not just him but the faith they are suppose to share?

when Barb said "i dont think i need you anymore" i took it as, "I dont think I NEED YOU to get into heaven anymore."
I just cant see Barb leaving Bill, and I hope she doesnt.

I didn't take it as her divorcing him. Just that she "doesn't NEED" him to get in to heaven anymore.
ETA: Oops, sorry. I posted my reply before I read all the way through. Glad to know that great minds think alike. ;D

Astrikyx and firstwife how did you guys get that it was about getting into heaven. That would be against Barb's core beliefs and I haven't seen anything that made me think that she has changed them.

I took it as that because she's realized that Bill is not going to be her priesthood holder. He's fallen too far off the path. She's followed all of Bill's decisions because that's what she believes she needs to do in order to united with her family in eternity. Her eyes are finally opening that he isn't following in action with either what he professes or what she truly believes. Her core beliefs have never been about The Principal.

I don't know if what Barb was saying was in reference to getting into heaven or just about daily life (I guess considering her background, heaven kinda makes more sense, but my initial reaction was that it had to do with daily life, but I don't have a Mormon background, so maybe that's why?)
But, I guess something that might back up that it's about getting into heaven is a conversation Barb had with her mom at her mom's wedding or during the Temple episode (I can't remember which). Barb said something about not being sure where she'd end up in heaven, with her dad, her mom and step dad, or with Bill. I think that's kind of revealing since at that point, you'd think she would automatically assume she'd be with Bill. If she still has the same doubts, than maybe she's finally come to the conclusion that where ever she ends up in heaven, it won't be with Bill...
Personally, I like it doing more with her daily life, but I guess either one would effect the afterlife?

According to HBO's Inside the Episode, Barb is talking about getting into heaven, and not needing Bill to do so. However, her statement can be relevant to so many things, so nothing is ever certain.

There's one basic thing about Barb that Bill has ignored. Her membership in the Church (LDS, not the Church of Bill) is very important to her. She and Bill went to the Bishop and lied through their teeth about no longer being involved in polygamy.
Now Bill has announced in public that they lied. She will be excommunicated all over again - and it broke her heart the first time.
That alone would be enough to make her leave.

When you are excommunicated, you can't just automatically be rebaptised. Normally, there is a repentance process that can take at least a year of Church attendance, regular meetings with the bishop, scripture reading assignments, etc. I think that once Barb was excommunicated, she really closed that door, in her own mind, and is trying to make her own way spiritually. When she and Bill went to the Bishop and said that they were not living polygamy, Barb knew as well as Bill that it was all a lie, a ruse, so that Bill could basically gain more votes in the election.

She just said she doesn't need him. It is called keeping her options open if this thing goes as badly as it will go. Brava to her.
