What was Hollis trying to say to Bill before Lois cut off his arm? His gesture was similar to someone declaring another a knight or something. I thought he was about to declare him the prophet because he was willing to give his life for his son. Any ideas?

I thought Hollace was going to kill Bill in exchange for letting the rest of the family go free... Perhaps he was going to ask Bill to get to his knees and kiss his hand and admit he was the one true prophet?

Hollis was definately going to kill Bill (hehe, 'kill bill'). Hollis is the prophet, according to himself and his splinter-group family (which seems much smaller a group than the juniper creek community, and certainly doesn't have a good relationship to the JC group other than selma being roman's sister. is it just me or are they all wackos? like certafiably delusional?) Who knows why Roman tolerated it. Perhaps he understood that the Greenes were something best to be kept separate from the rest. The Greenes were the most violent element of the polygamist sect that Big Love world has had us encounter. I don't doubt that Hollis's bent- whacked out ideas about 'justice' (like he expressed about the 'trial', being able to lodge 'appeals' etc.) would include the idea of someone being able to be murdered for a family/group's sins. "Blood Atonement" in fact. What stood out to me, was Bill's gentle way of speaking to Selma. Possibly he knows her from his childhood on the compound. Her backstory (and cross dressing) would be fascinating to find out more about.

Sportyone, I got the same impression. Hollis seemed as though he was getting ready to sound something profound such as declaring Bill the true prophet. Louis said something like don't lay a hand on my son then chopped Holli's arm off. Roman's sister (I can't remember her name right now) even seemed as though she knew Hollis was about to say something very profound. The way that she was saying "why would you do that (cut off his arm)" almost seemed like she was puzzled because Hollis was going to declare Bill the prophet.
You never know, Hollis may have been putting his hand on Bill's shoulder to exalt Bill from any misdeeds and assure Bill that he will be with Heavenly Father for all eternity as he (Bill) is willing to die to save his son.
I did not see Hollis have a weapon, so, I don't know how he was going to kill Bill. Unless, the machade that Lois used was going to what Hollis used to kill Bill.
I do agree, there seemed to be more going on there than Hollis just getting ready to kill Bill. Even before Bill said that he would die for his son I thought Roman's sister was acting strange. She looked to me during almost all her scenes that she was fighting back tears. Did anyone else notice that?

Holis was not going to declare Bill the true prophet. He was going to kill him in the traditional Blood Atonement fashion set up by Brigham Young. In the old days of the Church, Brigham Young declared that there were certain sins that could only be forgiven through a blood atonement, or a slitting of the throat, and allowing the blood to spill on the ground. That was what Hollis was preparing to do. That's what Bill knew he was volunteering to do, which is why Ben was so profoundly affected. Remember, he stated in the previews for next week, "Dad was prepared to die for me."

Liz3564, You are exactly right! Thank you for clarifying it for me. Do you (or anyone else reading) think that there is any significance for Lois having blood on her face after the arm chopping? If so, what do you think it means?
Did anyone else think that Roman's sister was acting stranger. Or perhaps I should say stranger than normal?

I don't really think there was significance with the blood on Lois' face; I got the feeling that was "typical HBO gore". They can't let Showtime have all the fun with "Dexter". LOL (Dexter is another one of my favorite shows, btw). Which one is Roman's sister? I joined the show a little late. I'm still figuring out some of the characters; I didn't really get into "Big Love" until season 3.

OK...call me stupid. LOL I didn't really think Selma was acting any crazier than normal. LOL I think she does genuinely love Hollis, and was legitimately freaked out to see him on the ground with his arm cut off bleeding out like that.

I think it was HBO gore but maybe it was the "blood on your hands" type of symbolism? Kinda high school, I know.
