This kind of bloody morality logic cracks me up. It isn't an atonement unless the person makes a willing sacrifice of their own life for their own sake to save their soul from hell... and then only after the atonement of Christ has been rejected. All of the media hype drama and anti-mormon rhetoric on this subject is completely misguided sensational hyperbole. I'm geting off topic but I thought (i haven't done any reading on it) that a blood atonement was made by another person to save another person's soul. I understood your post to mean that you would kill yourself to save your own soul. Obviously, Big Love is not real life but didn't Roman make comments about "blood atonement" for those who didn't follow whatever it is that he wanted?

No suicide is not ever an (religious) option.
But my point is that all of this stuff you see, especially in the media and the drama, shows nothing but a gross misunderstanding of the whole concept. The basic idea is that one is willing to pay the price for their own "unpardonable" sin. Usually though, repentance is a much better idea, wouldn't you think?
None of this vigilante stuff has any part. That is called murder. It is a sin and it just buys the perpetrator part of the same "condemnation"

I think Joey was the one going for "Blood Atonement" - in answer to the Greens being responsible for Kathy's death. But, Lois drew the blood, and they all went free when Selma chose Hollis' life over Bill's. Jeez, they may have all blindly stumbled through to a settlement!

She's my hero!!! An ending that awesome could only happen with Lois!!!!! I disagree, I believed every second of it....really I did. Or maybe it's just because THAT is why I'm addicted to BL...the unbelievable comes to life! I don't care about the casino or the senate race...give me the family story line every time please!!! You go Lois!!! Don't ever let them write you off the show. Hell I'm even starting to appreciate Frank! lol
And hey hi and thanks for straightening that out wurks; and hey there marion, marigoldmama withay and the rest ;D

Gee, I didn't think Lois was going for any kind of atonement, I just thought she hacked off Hollis' arm before he had a chance to shoot her son! I usually miss all the deep nuances. And I sure hope there was a hospital remotely close to where they were in Mexico with a doctor on hand (no pun intended!) who specialized in reattaching arms, not to mention a good tailor/dry cleaner who could but his jacket back in order.

Congratulations. btw, I'm a Nicki fan too. I want so bad to slap her into reality sometimes, but I really can't relate to the faithless Mormon or the unbelieving Gentile wife ... quite as well. (it's not just about sex) I have this compelling urge to want to "convert" them, which Bill seems to be unable to discern. The truth helps a lot, which he also seem oblivious to. Hellsakes, that's all Ana wanted, was someone in the whole freakin' org to be honest.

Joey was going for blood atonement but it was actually Lois who drew blood.

I did some quick online reading about "blood atonement" when the title of the episode went up - b/c i had no idea what it meant.
From what I read , it was originally intended to mean what wurks has described above.
However, some sects of the FLDS have warped it to mean killing those who have comitted certain sins. Under this twisting of it - Basically the premise is that some sins are so heinous that the only way to atone for them is thru the shedding of the sinners blood (sort of a sacrificial offering to God). Without this "blood atonement" the sinner will be lost forever - and so by shedding their blood you are showing them mercy in assuring their admittance to heaven.
Even with all that said, I think certain FLDS leaders just wanted to sanction murder and twisted this theory to fit their purpose. I also think that's the way it was used on the show - so not so much a slight to LDS (imo) just showing how twisted some FLDS sects are/ have been.
