I know the show is fiction, but I would love to see the floor plans of each of the three houses. They are all a craftsman style and different, yet similar, in layout. Additionally, they are decorated so stylishly, especially Barb's.
Anyone with ideas on the floorplans?
THANKS!

Welcome to the board yssimp! The floor plans would be interesting to see. Looking at the homes from the front, they seem like very typical 2 story homes...Probably kitchen, dining and living rooms downstairs and all the bedrooms upstairs. I also wonder if they are using sets, or using real homes to film.

I've been obsessing over that since the first season. I play The Sims and wanted to build the houses in the game. I actually watched every episode over and over again to draw those plans. They are huge houses, the three of them. I think all the bedrooms are upstairs but I can't be sure. The layout from the pilot is different from the one of the rest of the show. Sadly, I lost those plans.

THANK YOU for the welcome! Yeah, pretty standard houses. But, for instance...Barb has a giant chest freezer in a hallway connecting her dining room and kitchen. Nikki has a ledge that oversees her living room from her upstairs hallway. Barb's laundry room is upstairs. Yes, I am obsessed. I watched the first three seasons (for the 3rd time) before actually registering here, so at least I'd sound more educated. I look forward to participating more and getting to know all of you more.

And Barb has a fully furnished basement, but as far as I can tell, neither of the others do...

We can't forget about Nikki's nook, the one she wanted to shove Anna into.

Is Barb's basement finished or just have shelving and a couple couches? I guess maybe Utah is different than Michigan, but it gets WAY cold in our unfinished basement during the winter for the kids to enjoy going down there without gloves and hats.

I like Barb's kitchen and dining room. I have a large family and I love how the table and everything fits so well. Did you see the episodes this season showed an aerial shot of Barb's living room and the carpet was dirty!!! My husband noticed also. It kinda ruined the illusion. ;D This is really stupid but I'll admit it anonymously; I love their patio and how they eat dinner out there. It is just so nice! I saw a promo clip on one of those Entertainment Tonight shows and the three houses were in a huge warehouse looking thing. I know nothing about TV production so that was a set? I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices the decorating and stuff.

The house interior and backyard shots are definitely shot on a set, but it would be fun to see what the floorplans are supposed to be. Seldom do the sets on TV shows match the exterior shots of the house or even the interior sets. The Brady Bunch is a perfect example. You know, come to think of it, Big Love and The Brady Bunch are very similar.

Yes, what the floorplans are supposed to be. I know they aren't real houses.
THANK GOODNESS I'm not alone in this. I thought for awhile that I was a freak.....

No, you are not a freak. Hey, I'm the one looking at their carpet.

how about if we all go to "paint" and do a quick sketch of what we think the house layout is? (ateast the bottom floor of one house - does anyone have a clue on the 2nd story?) I think it would be fun to see how similiar or different our "layouts" would be in comparison. anyone game? I'm bored enough right now to give it a shot

I have no idea how to use paint. It sounds fun. We're snowed in up here. Perhaps I should hibernate.

I'm snowed in too LOL I gave it a go, pretty basic but I think you can see the general gist of how I see barb's 1st floor. (click thumbnail for larger view) I have no clue on the upstairs but we know they have atleast 4 bedrooms. I've never noticed a loft or anything interesting aside from a basic narrow hallway with doors - master bedrrom and bath, probably a jack n jill bathroom betwene two bedrooms and then the 4th bedroom. It's really a pretty basic and modern (as in built in the last 10 years , not style wise) house. The custom features are what make Barb's house so nice IMO ; cabinetry, built in cabinets and shelving inthe dining room, kitchen, etc.

Now, you're going to make me go watch all the previous shows, aren't you?! Barb has those pocket doors between the dining room and kitchen; Margie has some sort of cardboard folding pocket door, too.
