I was just wondering what Barb was talking about when she was "sifting weevils" before taking her shirt off lol! I am clearly missing something here. It looked like she was sifting rice didn't it?

I could be wrong but, I believe that "Sifting Weevils" refers to getting the bugs (weevils) out of rice or oats. Barb was clearly doing this to relieve the stress that she was feeling from all of the antics going on (i.e. the casino, Sarah keeping an Indian baby, Bill's campaign, etc.). This explains why she pounced on Bill. Barb was in the need of some kind of release, why not a sexual one? lol

lol yeah that scene was funny...Bill was such a dumbass though...Just clueless!
Barb is unbuttoning her shirt and he's looking at her like she has a 2nd head or something "What are you doing?" Like DUH wtf do you think she's doing dumbass! LOL!
I don't know...If I found bugs in my rice I'd throw it out. That sounds nasty!
Maybe that is a form of symbolism though...Bill is like an ANNOYING infestation of bugs in her hair. LOL!

Yes, I was creeped out at how matter-of-fact she was about weevils in the rice. When I had them in my kitchen cupboards, I moved heaven and earth to get rid of them! Earth to Barb - you can buy bug-proof canisters. I bet they even have them at Home Plus. A site about weevils: www.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-weevils.htm

I have occasionally gotten them in a box of pasta from the store or a bag of rice...I threw it out and did a thorough cleaning myself.

My aunt and my uncle spent years as Christian missionaries in Ethiopia. I remember my aunt telling me stories about the weevils in the flour...when she first arrived she would go to the trouble of sifting out the weevils. However, as time went on, she became consumed with various other concerns and just stopped sifting - she told me, she'd just bake the bread with the weevils right in!
I guess maybe they provided extra protein!
Thought this scene with Barb was a bit strange, though I loved when she told Bill, "This won't take long!"

That was such a weird thing to do; jump up and sift bugs?
I think there was some symbolism there of Barb sifting her life which seems to be full of problems?

I agree there is symbolism there... The sarcastic part of me thinks Bill is going to end up bringing crabs home.

Hope if he does barb doesnt feel the need to sift those too... eww... lol
I just thought she was trying to blow off some steam and get away from the sources of the stress for a moment... thus sifting the weevils. Bill showing up just gave her another outlet to releive some tension.

Bill showing up just gave her another outlet to releive some tension. I feel the same, wondered what "weevils" were, lol! I've had these little bugs in my flour, wonder if it's the same thing?
