How do you think Big Love will end? The writers of Big Love stated in an interview that when they created Big Love they wrote it for five seasons. They go on to say that HBO runs their series on a six season format. In the interview they did not know if they were going to run for five or six seasons (one of the writers said five and the other said he would would like to go for six). Regardless, how do you think it will end? I watch Big Love with several family members. We discuss Big Love endlessly!
We have concluded Bill will become the Prophet of Juniper Creek and Nikki will go with him. Nikki will be happy with this because her heart has always been with Juniper Creek and she has always believed that Bill is the true Prophet.
Margene and Ben will end up together. Margene's business is a success and Ben supports her. Ben seems to be fine with Margene having three children with his dad. Plus, Margene and Ben do seem happy together. Margene and Ben will have a happy life.
Barb will leave and embrace her family and the church she grew up in. This season Barb will become more independent. The relationship between Barb and Tommy may not be long lasting. It will probably leave Barb yearning for monogamous and she will gain the strength to lead the life that she wants to. Barb will be happy without Bill. Their children are older. The only reason Barb agreed to bring Nikki in initially was because she was very ill and believed she would die. I don't think Barb ever wanted plural marriage. Barb's illness caused her life to spiral out of control and she has never been able to regain control. This season Barb's relationship with Tommy along with the influence of the character Sissy Spacek is playing will allow Barb to regain control of her life once again.
How do you think Big Love will end? How would you like to see it end?

I wish they'd go longer than 5 or 6 seasons with this show.
I'm not sure how it will end though.
I would like to see Bill alone and his wives with men who love and appreciate them.

I wish they would go longer than 5 or 6 seasons too. Especially since we have to wait so long in between seasons! If you google big love spoilers you can find the article where the two main writers speak about the show. Apparently when they created the show they wrote it for five seasons. Now they are looking at a 6th season.
If Nikki ends up with Bill as the Prophet at Juniper Creek, Nikki will be happy. Nikki has always believed Bill is the true prophet. Margene and Barb will (or should) find happiness too. I think that Margene and Ben should be together. Ben loves Margene and has always been there for her. Ben does not seem as though he would care that Margene has three children with his dad. Barb will start a new life and be happy. I think Margene has it the hardest because she is young and has three young children. It would be difficult for Margene to start a new life with three young children. It seems with Ben and his love for Margene the two of them could start a wonderful life together.

I know we have heard that the writers said the family will end up together, but I'm seeing signs that it may not.
I've wondered on another thread if Nicki's "dead" pose in the opening credits means she really dies.
Something just occurred to me. Remember the original opening credits? How they end up together in the celestial kingdom? Maybe that's the final scene? Even if Nicki dies and Margene leaves the family, they end up together after death?

That is a very interesting point! According to their religion they are sealed for life and will spend eternity together.
I suspect the family is going to fall apart...But come back together again later.

The writers have only promised us that they end up together. There's nothing saying that they don't all go their separate ways for seasons 5 and most of 6. Maybe the final show will be them all dying in one way or the other and being reunited in the celestial kingdom.

In the new opening it does look like Nikki is dead. I never realized it until someone pointed out how Nikki looks dead in the new opening on this board. In the new opening Nikki does have her arms crossed like Romans.
It is interesting to think that the ending of the old opening will be how the show ends.
There is a Big Love blogger that is LDS. These are interesting blogs to read because the blogger has so much insight into the religion. I will try to find the link to this blogger and post it.
The opening has to have an important significance to the show. For one, the creators decided to change the opening. All of the other HBO shows always kept the same opening. The LDS Big Love Blogger pointed out that the change in the opening of Big Love must mean that the creators are confident that they have something confident up their sleeve. This blogger also pointed out that in the new opening they are in the outer darkness. In the original opening they were on earth and experiencing the pressure of life, then they die and Bill pulls all of the wives through the white veil, and they all end up together in the celestial kingdom. I never caught the part about Bill pulling them through the white veils in the original opening until reading the LDS Big Love Blogger.
The Blog is interesting and I will try to find the site to post. I found it by googling big love message boards.

It is my hope that the family remains together in this life as well as the Celestial Kingdom. I would like to see a power struggle between first Alby and JJ for control of Juniper Creek, then Alby teaming up with Bill to place Bill in as Prophet before he openly "comes out" of the closet. I would like for all of his wives to embrace the idea that he is destined to be Prophet of Juniper Creek. They should stand by him and support him. Once in power Bill could restore the name of the Hendricksons as well as remove some of the harsh practices that have been implemented under the Grants.
My favorite Charector on Big Love was Roman, they killed him off so now I am leaning towards Bill. In reality, Bill and Roman seem to have a lot in common once you get past the outer layers of appearence.

Hmmmm, very interesting....
For some reason, I don't see Bill every going back to Juniper Creek. He is just too much against so many of the FLDS tenets.
I also think the change of the opening sequence must be significant. And I also think it has something to do with outer darkness and broken connections. I hope Nikki doesn't die. She just got her Emmy from Big Love, for goodness sake.
I don't think there are going to be many family meals around the big table for this and maybe the next season. Everyone is spiraling out to his/her own private crisis. Bill is taken up by his Senate run. Margene is totally into her business. Nikki is so totally focused on Cara Lynn and keeping JJ away from her. Barb is consumed by the casino, and probably Tom. Ben has left home and Sara is married now.
My question is: who is taking care of the kids????lol

I totally see Bill going back to Juniper creek after all other avenues have been exhausted in his attempt to change the face of poly. I see him basically screwing things up so badly in the real world that he more or less has to go back to jc and then sees it as his destiny to change things at the compound - by becoming prophet.
As far as who will go with him wife wise... i havent really formed an opinion on that one yet.
I do think the new intro may hold a cue though; at the end bill is reaching out and only one hand is reaching back.

I can see Barb going back to Juniper Creek with Bill -- Bill will sweet-talk her into it by telling her that they will be establishing a legitimate school and helping to protect the women. It'll be a new, modern Juniper Creek, he'll say, and we can get rid of all the destructive impulses. And Barb will go because she is Barb. A do-gooder. And someone who loves Bill a lot for all his faults.
In the meantime, I think Alby cut his own throat by marrying off his mother to JJ. Adaleen, who 'walked over the backs of four [or six, I don't remember] sister wives' to stand by Roman's side, is certainly capable of maneuvering JJ into the Big House. I think after she calmed down following her breakdown on the phone to Nicki she realized this and that it went a long way toward shaping her 'perfect obedience.'

I see Bill as prophet. I think the show's overarching theme has been about the family pretending to be "normal" when really they're anything but. Bill will always be tainted with the filth of the compound. He will never be an LDS golden-boy and his family will always be shrouded in shame.
Lois said something earlier in the show that he needs to "remember where [he] comes from." The writers have been, especially lately, taking great pains to show us that Bill is his father's son, and that his heart is still inextricably linked to the compound. He will never be free of it.
I noticed the "outer darkness" theme of the opening. I don't see Nicki as being dead, but as being very serene, like a fetus, which makes me think of her rebirth. Barb's pose is very Christ-like, which reminds me of all the sacrifices she has made for the family. Margene seems to be sucked away, reaching out for the family so I think she will have to struggle to remain on the same page. She's already growing so much that fitting into the family is becoming very difficult. Bill is sort of just careening around grasping at their hands hoping to bring them together.
I think in the end that they will stay together. The show is about the struggles of love - if love doesn't prevail then the writers (who are both openly gay) will be sending a negative message about non-traditional families, and I doubt that's what they want.

I used to feel the writers were being pretty unbiased about polygamy ... but as the show has prgressed I think they are begining to send clear anti-poly messages - atleast from my point of view. So I wouldnt be surprised if the ending wasnt a "happily ever after" for everyone in the henrickson marriage.
