I thought the reason that there is only 5 seasons is because the writers had this whole series planned from the start & they are finishing it the way they intended (I am sure I read that in a few places). so why did they just come up with this thing this season then? seriously this is all screwed up. The writers are annoying me. Continue the series, & get new writers I also read that. But HBO cancelled Big Love - and probably allowed the creators/writers to say this mess of multiple storylines was all planned - in order to save face. We should consider ourselves lucky the writers did not bring in a new family member...oops, ah...hmm....CaraLynn? Back on topic - too bad the writers did not think to use Don knowing Margene was underaged and using that info to blackmail Bill. Heck, think of the havoc Roman would have made if he knew - there's still hope I guess that Alby finds out and uses it to purify Bill.

Who checks the ID of someone they love and have no reason to suspect they're lying, especially when their mother collaborates their story? On the other hand, who lies about something to someone they love when their lie could potentially land that person in jail? Normally, I would agree that you shouldn't have to check the ID of a person they love or suspect they are lying... BUT... Bill was an almost 50 year old man having sex with a "teenager"... It wasn't like he was 21 sleeping with a teenager.... Or even 30... He's a dirty old man as it is to be sleeping with her even if he believed she was 18 he should have still made sure! But that is just my opinion! I guess in my opinion, regardless of age, if you love someone, you trust that person. Bill loved Margene enough to marry her and have her in his family for not only this lifetime, but all of eternity. Margene claimed to love Bill just as much. So why would you suspect them of lying?

Bill loved Margene enough to marry her and have her in his family for not only this lifetime, but all of eternity. Margene claimed to love Bill just as much. So why would you suspect them of lying? Well again... This isn't exactly a typical love story with typical people. This is a guy who grew up on a compound where underage/forced marriages were a way of life. This is a guy who defends his religion claiming to be different... So when he is having sex with a teenager (he did know she was a teenager) he should have taken a little more time to make sure he was doing the right thing than taking her word for it... Seeing as to how underage marriage is a big "no no" where he is concerned. Personally, and I am saying this as a monogomous typical person... I would want verification of age if I was knowingly sleeping with a teenager... And I'm 31 years old. He is close to 50. JMO. It is kind of like this... I absolutely do not want to consume any MSG of any kind for many personal reasons. I am so serious about this, I take time to read every ingredient of every single thing I consume, because it is a big deal to me. I won't even eat out at any establishment if they don't furnish a complete list of ingredients for all of their menu items... So Bill going blindly into a marriage with a teenager without checking her age, given the seriousness he places on underage marriage would be like me going through the Burger King drive thru and ordering whatever I wanted and taking the drive thru girl's word for it that there is no MSG in their food.

I guess it just comes down to differences of opinions, and possibly even age. However, as someone who is 22, but looks much younger, I'd be a little weirded out and possibly offended if I was in a serious relationship with someone and they asked to check my ID. To me, it'd be like that person telling me they don't trust me.

But is just seems like someone like Bill would have checked it out before getting into a relationship with someone that young, even if she was 18. Bill is a grown man and should have known better.

He did check it out - he talked to her mother. I've never met a single person who checked ID in advance of starting a relationship. Margene was stupid. She lied. She put people she loves at risk - but that's nothing new for any of them. Honestly this family has so many skeletons in the closet and they've all done extreme damage to each other.
I sort of agree with Barb when she said, "We are all unholy." At this point they all just need to sit down and spill the beans about everything they are still hiding and resolve to clean up their act and support each other. Margene did what any teenager in her situation would do. Teenagers are stupid. Time for everyone to grow up and move on.

And I think that most of the people in here who say they would check ID, probably wouldn't if they were ever in that situation. It's just not something you would even think to do. Plus I don't think the thought would even occur to Bill because he's incredibly naive/trusting when it comes to the people he loves and if he thinks he's been given a testimony from his Heavenly Father. If Bill wasn't this way, Big Love wouldn't exist because the show would be so boring!

Okay... HBO put up a new video clip for next Sunday's show and so if you don't want any [glow=red,2,300]***SPOILER***[/glow] information don't read on. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.hbo.com/big-love/episodes/5/47-the-oath/video/ep-47-scene-clip-3.html?autoplay=true&cmpid=ABC131But it shows Margie at the dinner table talking about being "15" and without a father and would have been happy to find "anyone" to adopt her! So her sexual relationship with Bill happened when she was 15 years old and they were "married" when she turned 16! GROSS! I'm sorry but how do you not realize you are having sex with a 15 year old child?

That is like the age of Sara or Ben or something? That is really gross. I really don't like Bill involved in pedophilia, I'm sorry. It's just not Ok to have this story line. I really don't like it. And I'm sure that people who are really involved in polygamous relationships with consenting ADULTS don't appreciate this story line at all. I kinda thought that the creators were trying to show various family styles and how they were really normal and like other families. Uh, this is looking so good... I know that there are teens who look like women from a distance but when you get close up and LOOK at them, you can see that they are teens. Their mannerism, their speech, their interests, their intellectual level, their overall maturity. Not to mention he was intimate with Margene? He had no clue? I'm sorry but a teen girl's body is not the same and a woman's body. It's just different and Bill has enough common sense to know the difference. Bill is not some dumb-dumb. He was well seasoned in life and certainly had street skills. He was married to two women and had children. Teen children so he was familiar with how a teen looks and acts.

And you can see in the video clip he looks as if he is about to throw up all over his plate! Like seriously? This is beyond ridiculous! How could he have NOT known when like you said, he had children that age!

What is even more disturbing... Is that Margene actually admits it is a daddy complex. She just wanted a daddy and now Bill is the daddy that adopted her! What kind of sick twisted shit is that?

Honestly, I'm uncomfortable with this plot twist. There is enough pornography, exploitation, sexual abuse and emotional abuse of children in the world. Did Big Love need to go THERE? I have children almost 15 and to think of a 40+ year old man having a sexual relation with a 15 year old child really makes me sick. This plot is just not cool. You can write plots and plot twists about whatever and whoever you want. But keep your plots to ADULTS. Don't involve children. It's just not OK.

I totally agree! I definitely have a bad taste in my mouth.
I think the whole reason behind this plot twist though, is to show that Bill isn't any different than what he ran away from...
All through the seasons of this show Bill has placed himself up on this pedestal as above and beyond the compound... Even referring to his family (Lois, Joey, Wanda, Frank, JoDean) as a bunch of crabs in a barrel trying to pull everyone down in the barrel with them.
Bill is no different than Roman trying to Marry Rhonda.
Bill knew it was wrong when Rhonda was trying to hit on him, but he couldn't figure it out with Margene? I'm having a hard time buying Bill as the victim in this storyline... A almost 50 year old man who has a whole buttload of children, some of which are teenagers.. Should recognize a 15 year old when he sees one.

Big Love Rocks, I know, it totally doesn't make sense. I think it was just an afterthought for drama.
I love the clip. The look on Bill's face was priceless. Paxton did a good job of looking nauseous and scared at the same time. ;D

This storyline is making less and less sense all the time. They f'd it up so badly it's not even funny. I can't believe, for one second, that Bill wouldn't have figured out she wasn't 18 and I can't buy for a minute that Bill would really have nailed her if he had known.
