I just watched last nights show (Sister Wives) and I was surprised they made such a big deal about "coming out" now that they were going to be on the Today Show...since they have their own series and everyone already knows about them! Now they are going to move out of state (previews)...sort of what I think they will have the Henrickson's do in the final epi. With national TV coverage, what state do they think won't know about them? HA! It's not that they are trying to move to a state that does not know about them. It's that Utah has a special legal definition of marriage as it applies to bigamy. In other states, Kody is legally married to only one wife and has a spiritual marriage to his other wives so he is not legally a bigamist. Utah's legal definition of marriage says that if he cohabitates with more than one woman and calls them his wives, then he is legally guilty of bigamy/polygamy; at least in Utah!

Just saw the last two episodes, had not seen this before. In these episodes the group is forced to flee their home because of a high risk that the husband will be prosecuted for their 'lifestyle' in Utah.
As far as I can see, the children are not neglected and are in a loving environment. The women are all adults and know what situation they are in.
There are probably plenty of guys within 5 miles of my house who have children with multiple women, and don't care for their offspring or pay child support. Most of the mothers were probably unaware of the others at the time. Contrast this with the family in "sister wives".
I don't want to make a judgement on the way these people live together based on two episodes. However, I was very upset with the idea that people would have to flee their home in fear of the police breaking up their family, and in the middle of the night load up their truck and leave under the cover of darkness. All this for something that seems hardly a misdemeanor if anything. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN AMERICA.
Let's first as a society work on the deadbeat dads, the abusing parents, and neglected children before we judge families like the ones in this series.

Electroman, I absolutely agree with you. And for the record, I am not personally interested in polygamy and am by nature an extremely conservative person. But I see the conflict that you see; people living in uncommitted relationships...where there seems to be no committment to the other parent or even the children born of the relationship!

I have never figured out how this form of polygamy is any different then a guy having a mistress or two on the side.

Yeah I don't get it either. I do like the show Sisterwives though... I kinda feel like Janelle is really jealous of the new wife though. Some of the previews for their fall season also kinda made it seem like that too.
