Ok, I don't know about you all, but hearing listening to Nicki rant about Adalene's and Ana's pregnancies had me howling with laughter. I about rolled on the floor laughing. Divine retribution for those birth control pills!

I can't believe I got it right about Adaleen being pregnant!
Though - that doctor is giving her something that is making her happy and glowy. To begin with, I thought it was drugs, but I think it's hormones, the kind that have post-menopausal women getting pregnant.
And he's going to give them to Nicki.
I said a while ago that I think the opening sequence means Nicki may be going to die, and I think this doctor is going to be the reason. And I'm wondering if Nicki's scene with Sarah when she lost her baby was some kind of foreshadowing. Maybe the writers were already planning Chloe's exit from the show.

Oh, I hope you are wrong about Nicki, marionj2. I think her character is the most important on the show, excepting Bill, and I don't like him this season! But Adaleen pregnant at 62? OMG, even if her character was supposed to be say, 50, on the show, that is stretching it! I have heard that the early symptoms of menopause can mimic those of early pregnancy...or could Adaleen be trying to goad Nicki somehow, knowing that Nicki was avoiding having more kids, when that is forbidden? It will be interesting to see how this plays out!

Is anyone else bothered by how happy Adaleen is to be pregnant? She was being so insensitive to Nikki! She kept going on and on about how good she felt and how she knew that it was "meant" for her and JJ to be together! WTF?! I wanted to slap her! lol Yes, I'm bothered by it and don't understand it. What 50 something woman wants to have a baby by her daughter's husband?!!! It doesn't feel true to the character unless I don't understand Adaleen as well as I thougth I did.

I agree with you Marionj but I get a feeling it won't be this season; it seems to me they are making season 4 and 5 like one continuous season in terms of ongoing storylines, I don't think anything is going to get particularly wrapped up in the next two episodes. I am starting to realise that the creators had certain things planned from the very beginning of the show, like they had a 'skeleton' storyline and they just flesh it out or chop and change things here and there, so probably Nikki's death is planned; but this title sequence probably cost a good few million so I'd think they want to keep her character going. Maybe she dies in the last ever episode; so they don't lose Chloe from the show but all the clever viewers will be like 'aha you see I KNEW Nikki would die', that arms folded thing was the first thing I noticed with the first ads showing the new title sequence and you're right there have been a lot of other hints as well.

I really can't imagine the writers killing off Nicki, unless Chloe Sevigny wants off the show and her contract is up. Nicki is one of the best, most important, most complicated characters, and doing away with her would be a huge mistake, and unless a miracle happened, I think that would get the show cancelled.
But about Adaleen...what a bizarre turnaround. She was anxious and worried when Alby told her she was being forced out of the big house and reassigned. She called Nicki screaming and crying and freaking out when she found out she had to marry JJ. She was clearly disgusted and frightened on her creepy wedding night with JJ. And now she is all happy-glowy-preggers and thinks this is Heavenly Father's plan. What the hell happened? Did JJ have her replaced with a Stepford Wife???

rhinestone_cowgirl, why do you think that Nicki will die? I know that there has been speculations because of the new opening credits. I have read reviewers write that the "writers of Big Love must have something big up their sleeves to be so confident to change the opening." I have looked at the opening credits after reading posts about Nicki looking dead. Why do you think that they would kill her? Do you think she is going to get sick? Die from negligence of JJ's doctor son? Kill herself? Google articles about the writers of Big Love. They wrote the show for five seasons. However, HBO has a 6 season format. One of the writers wants to do 6 and the other wants to finish it in 5 seasons as planned when they created the show. Given that, it would not be a long shot that Nicki could die because like it or not the show is wrapping up. We are getting ready to wait for Season Five and that is where one of the writers wants to end the show as it was created. The other writer wants to do the six seasons. Either way Nicki's character if killed would come at the show wrapping up and ending. Does that make sense? I cannot imagine a story line that Nicki would die. Or for that matter the purpose of killing Nicki.
Miceelf, Adaleen is obviously being given some type of drugs by JJ's doctor son. These will be the same hormone treatment that he suggested for Nicki. Perhaps these drugs kill Nicki.
I am looking forward to hearing what everyone things the significance of the writers killing Nicki would be. I always thought Bill would be the prophet at Juniper Creek and Nicki would be the only wife with him at the shows end.

The idea of gving adaleen some drug that would make a pregnancy test come out positive is an interesting one... On the one hand it would make sense - if the purpose was to show Nicki what a miracle worked JJ's doctor son is. On the other, i think JJ's plan is bigger than just Nicki & it sitll woudnt insure nicki come ot see his son for fertililty / any other reason. I'm gonna have to think on that one for a minute....
In the previews for next ep adaleen says "what have you done to me?!?" so i think we're gonna find out soon enough. I think she is indeed pregnant but not with her own child or naturally - which upon finding this out would take away all adaleen's faith that this is a miracle and "meant to be" and that God has shown her so.
As high an imprtance as flds place on breeding / having as many children as possible... do you think adaleen would feel it was going against god to be "tinkering" with the process - in taking hormones, or being artificially inseminated? I do.

This has to be an egg taken from either Wanda or Nicki and fertilized by JJ. Kept frozen until the time this "miracle" baby would prove that JJ should indeed be the next prophet. At least that's what I've been thinking. Hmmm....

In the opening sequence, Nicki is often in a fetal position or with her arms crossed over her in a protective manner. I was thinking this was her regressing back to her childhood or protecting herself in some way.

Chloe has never been particularly enthusiastic about Big Love. She's a fashionista, and doesn't enjoy Nicki's costumes or attitude to life. "It's a job," she's said. I can see that she might have wanted out when her contract was up.
I think maybe they put her in heavy makeup and short skirts for that one scene (which seemed seriously out of place) as a concession to Chloe, to let her have some costume fun before she leaves.

marigoldmama, I agree with you about Nicki being in a fetal position in her opening title scenes. I notice Margene falling downward, then being pulled backwards, receding from the picture. Barb seems shocked, as she falls downward out of the picture. Then there's Bill seeming to struggle to hold all of it together, and at the end he's reaching for a hand that he never connects with. I wonder whose hand that is. Barb's maybe? I'm not sure what all of it means, but I realized the first time I saw it that things were falling apart for the Henricksons. I will truly hate to see this series end.

rhinestone_cowgirl, I think you have a good point about Nicki's "death" not happening until the final season. If she does get pregnant, it would give them enough time to have her die in childbirth or something similar.

Can you source where you got that from? I remember watching an interview with Chloe a while ago (I think it was after the first season) where she said that she enjoys the show and the cast members, and reading somewhere else that she actually helped design some of Nicki's outfits. So I'm just wondering where you're getting that because it doesn't jive with what I remember, but I could be remembering wrong...

I remember it from early on, and of course, we can't search the old HBO archives to find the reference. I did a quick Google and couldn't come up with it, and I don't have time to search now. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she helped design some of Nicki's outfits. She's really into clothes. I hope you're right, and she's enjoying the work.
