I think Ben was testing Bill to see if his father really cared, would he stop him, would he defend him and love him. I think Ben got his answer. And, in his awkward teenage way, he was crying out for attention and communication. Again, Ben got his answer. I wonder if Ben will still be a polygamist when he gets married or will he think that maybe one wife/one family is enough?

I really think that this whole situation is going to do more to the family than Anna leaving did. This should show that Bill is no different than his father Frank, to at least Nikki. I hope it makes Nikki and Margene question if Bill would do the same thing to their sons.
But I'm afraid this will be swept under the rug in the same way the Anna situation was.

According to the makers of Big Love, Barb is going to go through a transformation this season. Barb will be greatly influenced by Sissy Spacek's character. Barb will see how independent Sissy's character is. I do not know if anyone is aware of the SPOILERS involving Barb this season.
I think that when Barb became sick she believed that she was going to die. Barb did not want her children to be left without a mother, so, Nikki came. I believe Barb and Bill believed Barb was going to die. When she did not die the family drastically changed. We still do not know the deal that Bill and Roman had regarding Nikki. We know that Roman gave Bill money for Home Plus. I don't think either Barb or Nikki realize the extent of Bill and Roman's dealings. Bill had to keep Nikki because of the deal he made with Roman. When Barb did not die, Bill had to convince Barb that he believes in the principle. If Barb would have never become ill none of this would have happened. I think that Bill became attracted to Margene and used the principle to start having relations with her. Margene was vulnerable as she did not have a family of her own and was (is) very young.
I do think that Barb will realize that the plural life they lead would have never happened had she not become ill. I also think Barb will realize that it was a mistake. Barb will see that Bill has taken advantage of all of their vulnerabilities: Barb's illness, Nikki's brainwashed upbringing, Margene's lack of family and youth. I do think Barb is the one that Bill loves. Still after everything that has happened I think that Barb will end up becoming too disappointed in Bill's actions to stay with him.
I can't wait to see Barb character evolve this season! It is going to be really interesting! Really, we are seeing all of the wives pull away from Bill. Nikki last season, Margene with Ben, and now we will see what Barb will do. I posted earlier, and do believe, Big Love will end with Bill as the Prophet and Nikki will be the one to go back to Juniper Creek with him.
What do you think will happen? What would you like to see happen?

I think Barb gave up her life to make Bill happy. He got three wives (let's not forget Anna) and a bunch of businessess, but in the end, Barb is Bill's favourite wife. He got Nicki to get Roman's money and he got Marge to get a free babysitter who would sleep with him. And Anna was just a mistake he wanted to make right. Barb is the one for Bill.
On the first couple of seasons I thought Bill and Barb would stay together if the other two left, but now, after everything he had done, I think Barb would leave him anyday.

Thanks marigoldmama! As I mentioned in one of my post, I watch Big Love with several family members. We discuss the show endlessly. Big Love does have a lot of twist and turns. And, I did say to my family members "I don't know if we are smart enough to figure out how Big Love ends." I really do think in the end Nikki, Margene, and Barb will be happy. They all deserve it after everything they have been through.
Barb is smart, she finished her post graduate degree. She deserves to have a life that fulfills her instead of getting caught up in everything Bill seeks out.
Margene has proven to be smart too. She has started a very successful business. It will be hard for Margene because she does have three young children. I do think that Ben loves Margene and would be a good husband to her.
Nikki belongs on the compound. That is where her heart is. Nikki will enjoy and be happy being the wife of the Prophet. Nikki is very smart too!
Thanks again marigoldmama. I look forward to discussing Big Love with everyone and hearing what others have to say.

I wish Barb would leave Bill too but she won't -she really loves him, though she seems headed towards a nervous breakdown this season----- her situation at the casino where she is always doing the wrong thing & really seems cluless when they never portayed her that way before- Hitting the Indian Girl & trying to hide all the problems from Bill and then having to hear him berate her for keeping things from him, when he lies every minute.. Now she is losing her second child ( Ben) though I have never cared for his charcter much anyway

I would ove to see Barb go thru a positive change as well ... but I think the "tranformation" we'll see in Barb this season may have more to do with her (temporarily) losing the traits or basis of what we've come to know her as; Confident, strong, faithful, in control - IMO she's been the one to hold the family together at the seams playing peace maker and problem solver.
We've seen her being emotionally beaten down leading up to this season. I think this seaosn she may have a complete breakdown... and then who will hold it together for her? Maybe hitting bottom will be what it takes for her to stand up to Bill in a real way. (?)

I would like to see Barb seek comfort and help from her mother, sister and the LDS church, in leaving Bill. That would piss Bill off more than anything else!
