Those compound ladies in texas took their stuff online and started selling their clothes though to recoup money for thier families. I wonder if maybe the produces bought them?

I seriously doubt it. That would put the whole design team out of work. I'm sure they are affiliated with some showbiz union or contract that wouldn't allow them to do that. Ex: IATSE
Remember Tom Hanks is the producer for the show & I'm sure he wouldn't want any legal beefs over breeched contracts due to costume design.

I am actually originally from San Angelo (everyone remember the raid on the Mormon Compound in Texas during the summer of 2007?). They wouldn't let you anywhere near the compound, though. They had up lots of fences and guards. However, they had no control over the sky. Various people would rent planes to fly over and take pictures as the compound was being built and after it was finished. The people on the compound looked just like the citizens of Juniper Creek. Not sure how realistic (or unrealistic) it is for mainstream, though.

Now they are incorperating that more into Big Love. Instead of patterned prairie dresses (which some are still wearing) a lot of the women are wearing the all one color type with the poofy sleeves like the ladies from the Texas compound. I definitely noticed that too! It is really interesting to me to see what truths about polygamy/FLDS that the writers/costume designers/etc bring to the show.

I'll be making a trip to the library tomorrow, to pick up some poly reading (lol) based on the suggestions made here.
I was just wondering if anyone knows of any related documentaries ?
I missed most of the news stuff, so most of the video i've seen was basically just what was on Oprah the day I happened to watch.

Don't forget the third group of Mormons. The RLDS based in Independence, MO. They are really more mainstream then the other two.
I knew very little prior to watching Big Love about FLDS. I worked with some LDS for awhile and while they were nice enough people, but made me iffy of the whole group.
I'm going to see if I can pull some of the books Duets, hi Duets, suggested for my kindle.

There's a sort of new book out, Stolen Innocense by Elissa Wall, This is her story of how she broke free from W. Jeff's. After being forced into marriage (of course). I've read this one. It's good. The story is told thru her eyes as a teenager, who was a child/kid in poly world.
Libraries usually carry a movie selection dept. It's worth a try to check it out. Ha, it's faster than reading a book. If u come across September Dawn, stars John Voight, 2006. It's a love story, based upon Mtn Meadows Massacre. It's a good movie to see, I recommend!!
If you happen to enjoy movies here's a few I've picked up along the way, I will recommend them to you here, because I found each of them to be interesting. The Mormon Puzzle, Child Bride of Short Creek, Trail of Hope [The story of the Mormon Trail] history based, good! The Bible vs The Book of Mormon, Lifting the Veil of Polygamy, A & E Investigative Reports-Inside Polygamy, Savage Journey~ based on true story of BY, DNA vs BOM~ if your a lab person you'll like this 1, but I didn't find it that interesting (& I work in health care). The Handcart Pioneers~Docudrama of the Restoration. PBS The Mormons.

Yes indeedy. I visited the Old Mormon Fort here in Vegas. It's an historical site & has alot of history behind it. However today sadly, it isn't much to see. Then of course I sometimes drive by my neighbors just for the fun of it! Yep, I'm hooked.

I remeber reading on wiki that one of (or maybe the first) temple that Joseph smith built was in Ohio (which is where i live) and thinking... hmm... that's interesting. I guess i never considered some of the mormon history would have happened in the midwest... but as i read more i realized how wrong that assumption was.
next time i go up north to lake erie i may have to make a pit stop at that temple. lol

Janie, I would love to see that temple, even if only from the outside. I've read about it also & it was the Tabernacle of Temple's or so I've heard/read. I'm wanting to go to Salt Lake City to visit; but I haven't been able to do it yet. I would also like to drive to Short Creek; but I don't think I'm up for the FLDS cops to follow me, hee,he. St. George has alot of history, BY's house/castle is now a restaurant for the public. Also, St. George is where most of the "lost boys" end up from the compounds [near/or not] there.
Elissa Wall: The ceremony was conducted in room number 15 at the Caliente Hot Springs Motel in Caliente, Nevada. It was then owned by the FLDS. They no longer own it; I think it's been bought by a chain like Ramada or HI, or some other entity.

The temple that Jesus will return to is in Independence, MO and is open to the public. I haven't gone on a tour but always thought I should since it's close. Now I want to go more after starting this show. lol
