Thoughts...
I think the fingernails thing is about inbreeding.
I'm wondering if Wanda was forced to marry JJ and Cara Lynn is actually hers - the "something he has of hers." It would explain why he kept saying Nicki had no right to take "his" daughter to Washington. At first I assumed he was just being patriarchal, but maybe there's more to it.
Maybe Wanda was Nicki's co-wife, and when Wanda started falling apart (being married to your - presumably half - brother would do that), Nicki took over as her mother.
It would also fit with that line "I have 7 mothers, and you're not one of them!"

Good thoughts, Marion. It would also explain why Nikki and Wanda are so close. I mean, with how Nikki was at the beginning of the series (very Juniper Creek, felt that each woman had her place, princess of Juniper Creek-type), you would think that she wouldn't be as close with someone as "cooky" as Wanda. But they are. At first, I thought it was because they were relatives through Bill and Joey. But then, Wanda was talking to Nikki right before Roman's trial about how Nikki would tell Wanda how much J.J. made her skin crawl. This meant that they were friends back when Nikki was married to J.J.
It seems that this might be something weird to say to your sister-in-law about her brother, but if Wanda was in a bad relationship with him, as well, it would make more sense. Almost like they were venting to each other about it.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if JJ is a doctor - licensed or otherwise. It's easy to assume that all compound people are uneducated, but that really only applies to the women.

I think it is most possible that JJ has at least molested (and perhaps been sealed) to his (half?) sister Wanda in cases, while he was married to Nikki.
I do not think, however, that cara lynn is Wanda's daughter but i do think it's possible that they might have some unexplained history back in kansas, perhaps another child.
Re JJ's medical training: the way i reacted just when I saw it was simply that he knows what to do and is somehow into it. Perhaps it's just the fact that he's the creepiest man in the universe anyway, but it was almost like he was getting off by talking about taking a biopsy. ewwww
Sort of bummed we never find out what happened at the end of that plot -- JJ going to catch Joey digging up roman!

I think Nicki and Wanda have gorwn up together on the compound. it does seem a slightly unlikey friendship, but I'm thinking part of it has to do with JJ (in one way or another). Maybe they were both placed in the Joy book together? Maybe JJ& wanda's father was dead and so it was JJ who put wanda in the book... and nicki who was sealed to him... ? common ground to hate him and talk to each other about him.
As to the what he has that's precious? I think he has wanda's child... or atleast someone precious to her is under his care. I defnitelly think it's a "who" rather than a "what". Just a guess though.

If it turns out that Cara Lynn is Wanda's and not Nicki's, I'll be incredibly disappointed. With all the other stories going on, there's no way this would get the amount of time or attention it would need to be done well, and there's been so few real clues that that's the case (the only two things that I really believe points to this possibility is Cara Lynn's eye colour, and JJ saying that he has something of Wanda's). I think it would just be sloppy if there wasn't something more to indicate this, like Wanda calling Nicki to find out how Cara Lynn is, or Wanda asking JJ or Joey about her. But there's none of that. Wanda didn't even care when Cara Lynn was on the compound.
As for the two quotes that Marion brought up, while they're interesting, I don't think they really prove anything.
JJ's language ("Where's my daughter", etc) isn't that weird. After all, Cara Lynn is HIS daughter. He's been the one raising her, not Nicki. Also, by using the term "my" instead of "our", he's reminding Nicki that Cara Lynn is his, and not just hers, which means that trips have to be agreed on by him.
As for Cara Lynn's line about having seven moms and Nicki not being one of them, I think it was said mostly out of anger. If you think of being a mom strictly as a biological status, than yes, Nicki is Cara Lynn's mom. But if you consider the social side of it, Nicki isn't. Nicki hasn't been in Cara Lynn's life for years, but seven other women have. It's not fair to Cara Lynn that out of nowhere, this women who has ignored her and pretended like she doesn't exist for years, suddenly shows up and thinks that she can boss her around simply because she's her "mom". I think Cara Lynn's line was saying, "You're not the person who raised me, cared for me, took care of me, or any of those other motherly things, so you can't boss me around or pretend that you were all of that."
Slightly off topic, but Cara Lynn's line reminded me of an interesting article I read about adoption reunions. It was written by Dr. Karen March, who, according to one of my professors, is a leading researcher in the field. One of the things that March finds in her study on adoption reunions, is that for the majority of participants, by meeting their birth mother, adoptees realize that their real mother is their adopted mother. Cara Lynn's line seemed to be telling Nicki that.
As for a possible understanding of what JJ meant, I at first was totally confused, but then thought that maybe he was referring to Joey. JJ has all this "proof" that Joey killed Roman. JJ "has" Joey, in that if they don't listen, JJ can go to the police. It's pretty literal, but from the looks of it, JJ does have them! He's gotten both of them so paranoid that they're digging Roman's body up.

Great thoughts about JJ "having" Joey...Joey being the "precious thing" that belongs to Wanda.

Anyone else wonder what the heck this is all about? I have a couple theories... Maybe JJ melted his fingertips to destroy his fingerprints and the finger nails went in the process... Or maybe he was tortured... Or it could be a side affect from inbreeding.
